PCE Hit The Table. Crypto Still Wants Receipts.

PCE hit the table, Jackson Hole opened the kitchen, and crypto needed a second look.
July PCE landed at 0.2% m/m and 3.7% y/y, Jackson Hole runs Aug. 27-29, and ETF flows are still buying time for BTC. Nice setup, still no dessert: BTC is holding $78,000 but missing $80,000, with ETH below $2,500.
TODAY'S MENU
BTC: $78,818 (-0.21%) — Above $78,000, still missing the $80,000 receipt.
ETH: $2,491 (-0.51%) — Cleaner than BTC, still under $2,500.
Fear & Greed: 71 (Greed) — Appetite stayed warmer than price.
Macro Watch: DXY 99.157 — Below 100 helps, but macro still runs the room.
Flow Signal: $314M BTC ETF inflows — Institutions kept ordering.TODAY'S JOB
Do not confuse a hold with a breakout.Let the market earn the next course above$80,000 in BTCand$2,500 in ETH.
LEVELS AT A GLANCE
BTC 4H — Compression Below The Receipt
BTCDaily Tape:-0.33%(O $78,980 | H $79,008 | L $78,600 | C $78,818)
Support: $78,000 | Resistance: $80,000 | Bias: Neutral repair watch
ETH 4H — Failed Reclaim, Still In The Oven
ETHDaily Tape:+1.10%(O $2,504 | H $2,511 | L $2,483 | C $2,491)
Support: $2,425 | Resistance: $2,500 | Bias: Neutral to constructive repair
CHEF'S CHOICE
This morning starts with pattern, not prediction.
BTC is in range compression between the defended $78K shelf and the unrepaired $80K reclaim gate, while ETH is still in a failed-reclaim repair around $2,500. That is why the tape feels busy without feeling bullish: the next upgrade needs a reclaim and hold, not another quick poke at resistance.
The macro side explains the hesitation. PCE did not nuke the room, but it also did not hand crypto a free dessert. Jackson Hole keeps the dollar-and-rates channel in charge, so DXY below 100 helps without upgrading the chart by itself.
Flows are the reason this setup still gets some benefit of the doubt. $314M came into U.S. spot BTC ETFs on Tuesday, and August inflows have reached $3.03B. Real support, still incomplete: yesterday's map did not break, but it also did not upgrade, so we still wants receipts.
COOKING LESSON
Read the Reaction, Not the Headline
A “good” or “bad” macro print doesn’t always produce the obvious trade. The better read is to watch what the dollar, yields, BTC, and ETH do after the news hits. If inflation comes in hot but the dollar can’t extend higher, that tells you the market may have already priced in the bad stuff. The reaction is often the real meal, not the headline.
QUICK BITES
INSTITUTIONAL — ETF buyers kept showing up | $314M of U.S. spot BTC ETF inflows on Tuesday means the floor still has sponsorship.
MACRO — Jackson Hole is the real background music | The symposium runs Aug. 27-29, so rate and dollar cues stay in charge.
CROSS-ASSET — DXY is not the villain, just the bouncer | At 99.157, the dollar is still near the door.
THE TAKE
The ingredients look solid. The dish needs proof. As long as BTC is under $80K and ETH is under $2,500, this is repair food. Don’t treat PCE like the whole meal. Jackson Hole is still sitting on the counter, and Powell’s tone could decide whether this repair actually sticks or gets sent back to the kitchen.
